List of folks who found their way to the Boathouse Cafe in Central
Park (I'm not 100% sure about the years) on April 30, 2005
David Terris 65-67
Peter McGovern 65-67
Ben Arden 64-66
Heather Roan Robbins 71-74
Andy Reed 65-67
Matuschka 72
Lee Goldberg 70-73
Jim Freeman 72
Sarah Katz 64-67
Jay Korman 66-68
Daniel Babush 65-67
I think Ben was the first to arrive, followed by David Terris, and
then myself. The rest drifted in.
The time flew. David Terris was his friendly, enthusiastic self. He
seemed to be everywhere at once; joking with Matuschka, flirting with
Sarah, reminiscing with Jay, hanging out with everyone at one time or
another. Ben was congenial and has my vote for the most likely to be
on his two feet longer than the rest of us. He shared his plans for an
upcoming trip to Costa Rica and talked about hiking and a little about
SCUBA diving.
Heather smiled her charming smile a lot and seemed able to bridge the
two eras with ease. She told me that her astrological research
indicated an eclectic and friendly gathering and that sure turned out
to be accurate!
Andy and I had been good friends at WMS and it was great to find him
doing well and to discover his observant intelligence and sense of
humor intact. He had been to see the Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy
the night before. His review: It sucked.
Beautiful New York Artist Extraordinaire, Matuschka, graced our
get-together with some stories of her life and art and then joined Jim
Freeman and Lee Goldberg at the 70s end of our table. If you haven't
checked out her web site (http://www.matuschka.net/matuschka.html)
it's worth a look.
I didn't get much of a chance to chat with Jim or Lee, but they both
seemed to have a good time.
Jay Korman looked as wise and hip as ever. I had hoped to chat with
him while, but the time went too fast!
Sarah Katz demonstrated how age seems to fade backwards over time for
some people. She seemed as sophisticated as ever, but looked even
younger than I remembered her looking at Windsor! Her radiant smile
and easy laughter lit up our end of the table and it was great to see
her again.
Thanks to a bout of food poisoning, my good friend from Windsor, Danny
Babush, was unable to make his trip to Rio De Janeiro and so was able
to join us in the Park. He thoughtfully brought along a copy of the 67
yearbook to share with us as well as his infectious good humor and
sharp memories of Windsor people and places.
The Boathouse worked out well. It was a rainy and drizzly day so the
throngs of tourists and Sunday Park-goers never arrived, leaving the
Boathouse cafe fairly empty. We pushed together a bunch of tables,
bought coffee, tea, and sandwiches at the counter, and had us a good
old time.
Naturally, the best part was reminiscing about times at Windsor. I
heard discussions of teachers, classes, run-ins with court and
council, and news and comments about all kinds of people..their
foibles, loves, idiosyncrasies, and fates. Before I knew it, three
hours had passed and I had to leave.
I took a bunch of photos and I'll be posting them here within a few days I hope.
Lee also brought a camera and took pictures.
